San Miguel

San Miguel is a typical Spanish village in its own right. However, due to its proximity on the outskirts if Villamartin it is often regarded as part of the Orihuela Costa. Also referred to as San Miguel de Salinas, the village lies on top of a hill with commanding views over the salt lake. This is a place where life idles along at its own gentle pace and the heart of the action is centred around the traditional church square. Here families and friends meet up of an evening to enjoy the breeze and set the world to rights, maybe over a game of cards or checkers.

San Miguel Attractions

Within the village visitors can take a wander around the lovely church or explore the quaint San Miguel cave houses. There is also a delightful cave restaurant, simply named Las Cuevas. Here visitors can dine in romantic little nooks and crannies within the caves or choose to dine al fresco in the pretty courtyard terrace.

Impromptu live performances can be enjoyed in the village bandstand and there is a lively Wednesday morning market. The market attracts visitors from far and wide and visitors can take advantage of the more extensive menus offered in the village tapas bars and restaurants on market day. On scorching hot days why not can cool off in the large village swimming pool.

Surrounding Attractions

On the opposite side of the village from the salt lake is the fresh water Lake Pedrera. The lake is a good spot to enjoy a family picnic and is also favoured by fishermen. Its biggest attraction for visitors though are two adventure parks located on its shores.

Lo Rufete Multi Adventure Park is a delight and offers exciting activities for young and old. Little ones can have fun and games on trampolines, electric quads and bouncy castles in the Mini Park. Older children and adults can enjoy the thrills of paintball, quad bikes, zip-line, kayaks, archery and horse riding. There is also a swimming pool and BBQ/picnic area.

Casa la Pedrera is well known for being featured on the popular British TV programme Grand Designs Abroad. They offer similar activities to Lo Rufete but also offer fishing, air rifle target shooting and water-skiing. The beautiful villa has an on-site tea garden and craft shop.

Punta Prima

Punta Prima is one of the smaller residential areas of Orihuela Costa that borders the city limits of Torrevieja. As is the case with all the Orihuela Costa coastal areas, it is dissected by the N-332 dual carriageway.
