For those who require transport during their visit to Orihuela Costa, there are a variety of options available. Some of us are lucky enough to have friends or family living in the area who have a vehicle. Others choose to stay in one of the coastal residential areas. This is great if you are planning on spending a lot of time at the beach. The vast majority of these residential areas are also within an easy walk to shops and entertainment venues. However, Orihuela Costa and the surrounding Costa Blanca offer so much more for visitors with access to a vehicle.
Whether flying into Alicante Airport or the smaller Murcia-San Javier Airport, visitors will find a selection of international car hire companies. Both airports use reputable taxi firms, making it easier to deal with any problems that may arise. Some visitors choose the cheaper option of people offering private ‘airport runs'. This can and has caused disputes, and even fist fights between registered taxi firms and ‘moonlight' drivers. So, be careful and when greeting the person picking you up or dropping you off, act as if they're a good friend or estate agent.
Airport Bus Transport
Murcia-San Javier Airport unfortunately does not have any bus service. It does however have a small selection of international car hire companies and a taxi rank. Alicante Airport has a regular daily bus service to various areas of the Costa Blanca. The bus service to Torrevieja runs every 2 hours. This is from 08:00 – 22:00 airport to Torrevieja and 07:00 – 21:00 Torrevieja to airport. Once at the Torrevieja bus terminus there is a taxi rank directly outside. Alternately, visitors can take the Alicante to Pilar de la Horadada bus to reach Orihuela Costa. This has space for large luggage and stops in Punta Prima, Playa Flamenca and Cabo Roig.
For such a popular holiday destination, Orihuela Costa has surprisingly few scooter hire options. It's possible some of the independent car hire companies have scooters for hire but don't advertise it. It's also worth trying to find private scooter hire through the local Facebook social or buy & sell groups. Alternately, Scootmar in Pilar de la Horadada offer free delivery and collection on their scooters within a 30 kilometre radius. This radius covers all Orihuela Costa. They have 50cc and 125cc scooters for hire, as well as a selection of fun guided scooter tours.
Exploring Orihuela Costa by bicycle is a fun and inexpensive mode of transport. You don't have the constant pressure of keeping up with the traffic. You can top up your tan while getting some exercise, and choosing a mountain bike allows you to get off the beaten track. The area has some great nature trails and a superb coastal path. There is a selection of bike hire firms to choose from. Those outside Orihuela Costa offer a free delivery and collection service. Bikes to choose from include road, mountain, unisex, tandem, child and electric.
Mobility Scooter Hire
It's extremely difficult and costly to air transport your own mobility scooter when going on holiday. Although mobility scooter hire is readily available in Orihuela Costa, visitors can be thankful the pavements are not as crazily packed as Benidorm! Mobility access to the beaches, shopping complexes and popular attractions is relatively good. Buses and taxis have mobility access, and pavement ramps are sufficient. The selection of mobility scooter hire companies offer a variety of scooters and other mobility aids. For visitors wishing to explore further afield these companies also stock collapsible scooters that fit in the boot of most vehicles.
