Los Altos

The bars and restaurants in Los Altos are located in two commercial centres. The residential area of Los Altos sits atop a hill with commanding views of Torrevieja salt lake. It's divided from neighbouring La Florida by Calle Panticosa. On the corner of this road and Calle Lagunas de Ruidera is the most popular centre, Via Park 3. Further down the hill, also on Calle Lagunas de Ruidera is Via Park 5. Although both offer a selection of bars and restaurants, Via Park 5 is the lesser known of the two centres but does boast some lively entertainment venues.

The legendary Lime Bar is located on the upper level of Via Park 3. This is one of the longest established of all the bars and restaurants in Los Altos. Run by a friendly and welcoming family, Pete and Sue and son and daughter Mark and Carly, Lime Bar is a firm favourite with both holidaymakers and expat residents. Due to its popularity, the bar has expanded over the years and now incorporates the aptly named Bar Next Door. Both establishments offer indoor seating and large outdoor terraces with summer sun shades and winter space heaters.

Aside from the friendly staff and multiple TV screens, one of the biggest draws to Lime Bar is the regular entertainment. Throughout the week they have games, quizzes, bingo and raffles. Bar next door has a pool table and dart board for friendly and local league games. Although neither bar does meals, they do have snacks and often lay on popular weekend BBQ's.

On the ground floor of Via Park 3 is the equally as well established CKI Bar. Here Kirsty and her team serve up great value full English breakfasts as well as a lunch and dinner menu. Steaks are a popular choice and they offer a full range of hot and cold drinks. Welcome Inn is also on the ground floor and is the place to go if you fancy laying on a bet or a game of snooker on full size tables. The centre also has popular Indian and Chinese restaurants with extensive menus.

Via Park 5 is just a short walk down the hill. This area is often referred to as Dream Hills, as it borders Los Altos. This is the case for much of Orihuela Costa as there are no distinguishing signs or boundaries separating the various residential areas. The highlight of Via Park 5 is La Strada. This is indeed a hidden gem and those that have discovered it usually return year after year. A great selection of homemade pizzas, spaghetti and pasta dishes as well as juicy steaks are served up by the friendly staff, accompanied by a good selection of drinks and wines.

The centre has a small choice of bars including Jj's Cafe Bar and the popular Phoenix Bar. Here a warm welcome is always assured by owner Donna who has done a great job re-decorating the place. All day breakfasts are a popular choice and they also do homemade curries and a succulent Sunday roast. Friday nights offer a great social scene with a fun family quiz.
