Villamartin is an inland residential area on the Orihuela Costa, popular with holidaying couples, families and golfers. The excellent choice of apartments, townhouses, bungalows and villas in the area also attract large expat communities mainly from Britain and Scandinavia.
The area is quite hilly and this is evident on a number of the challenging holes on the superb Villamartin Golf Course. Conveniently located next to the course's clubhouse is the popular Villamartin Plaza. The plaza's top level offers a number of holiday rental apartments, handy for visiting golfers but rather noisy in peak season from the bars and restaurants below.
The plaza and golf course lie in the heart of the area and are surrounded by some fantastic properties. Although inland, being hilly many of the homes in the area boast sea views. Others have wonderful views over the golf course and a good number of these properties are available for holiday rental. The area is also known for its large number of swimming pools. Many of these, as well as sports facilities, playgrounds and parks are located in gated communities.
Activities & Attractions
Holidaymakers staying in one of the gated communities can enjoy some great activities. Some are that large they have up to 10 swimming pools, tennis, padel, patanque and basketball courts. Others have on-site restaurants and community club houses. However, when booking accommodation that has shared leisure facilities make sure the owner has paid the community fees. If they haven't you will more than likely be refused entry to any of the facilities.
The lively plaza is a focal point and great social aspect of the area. Built over three levels, the first two offer shops and entertainment venues and the third is taken up by apartments. The complex is very attractive and well laid out with an array of plants, trees and water features.
Bar and restaurant seating areas take up the central courtyard. Here, especially during the summer months there is regular live entertainment. Aside from an excellent choice of bars and restaurants, the plaza has shops, a supermarket, banks, hairdressers and a handy post room. Across the road you can get your beach gear, clothing and other bric-a-brac from the Chino.
Villamartin Golf Course
This is one of the most popular and challenging golf courses on the Orihuela Costa. Some of the 18 holes have hilly fairways where deep gullies come into play. The course is well maintained and in parts offers lovely sea views. There are practice greens and a large driving range. At the clubhouse players can hire trolleys and golf carts, and there is a Pro Shop with further equipment hire, clothing and accessories. Throughout the stylish clubhouse there is comfortable seating areas, a bar and the newly built restaurant offering commanding views.
