Horse Riding

Horse riding is a wonderful activity to enjoy during a holiday in Orihuela Costa. Of course, being largely a coastal area, water sports and activities are very popular here. Go-Karting and quad biking are also popular but for fresh air and nothing but the clip clop of hooves to disturb the silence, you can't beat getting out on horseback.  Although the area is not mountainous there is some great countryside and two lovely lakes that are perfect for horse riding.

Horse Riding In Orihuela Costa

There are several riding schools and equestrian centres in the area. These are handily located close to the lakes and countryside nature trails. Visitors to Orihuela Costa interested in riding can choose to take lessons, head out on a selection of guided hacks or even join a horse riding summer camp. There are also lunge line lessons and lead hacks for smaller children.

Horse Riding At The Lakes

Both the Torrevieja Salt Lake and Pedrera fresh water lake offer excellent riding terrain. On the shores of the salt lake is Villa Salada. Here visitors can enjoy a variety of hacks along the nature trails surrounding the lake. The highlight of Villa Salada is their spectacular flamenco and equestrian shows. These are a combination of dazzling flamenco dancing, dressage and Spanish guitar accompanied by a delicious al fresco dinner on their large terraces.

Lake Pedrera is home to two thrilling multi activity centres. Lo Rufete offers exciting activities for all ages both on the lake and on land. Casa La Pedrera which was featured on the popular British TV program Grand Designs Abroad offer similar activities. At both centres visitors can enjoy a variety of guided hacks, quad bikes and kayaking. Lo Rufete also offers paintball and a mini activity park for children, and Casa La Pedrera also boasts water skiing and fishing.

El Rancho

El Rancho are based on the outskirts of Orihuela Costa near San Miguel de Salinas and the Torrevieja Salt Lake. Their excellent equestrian centre also offers other sports and leisure facilities, accommodation and entertainment. For those who prefer to just enjoy the leisure facilities of the ranch there is lawn bowls, petanca and a lovely swimming pool and terrace next to the bar and restaurant. Accommodation is offered in charming wooden bungalows. Accommodation and meals can be taken separate or as part of a horse riding package.

Hiking

There are some great opportunities for hiking in Orihuela Costa. With its wonderful coastline, network of canals, natural parks and lakes, hiking can be as energetic or gentle paced as you choose.
